Mary Beth Malcolm grew up in a musical family. Her family sang in the church choir, her grandfather played bluegrass music, her grandmother played piano at her home church, and it was a rule in her house to take piano lessons until high school graduation. She knew from an early age that music was what God intended for her to do with her life. She majored in music at The University of Kentucky, participating in both marching and basketball bands.
After college, Mary Beth taught general music and private piano at St. Anthony School on Charleston’s West side to grades Pre-K through 8th. It was during this time that Mary Beth discovered another passion: musical theatre! She was musical director for Children’s Theatre of Charleston from 2008-2013. She has taught private piano and voice lessons and is currently the music director at Elizabeth Memorial United Methodist ChurchShe is a Licensed Kindermusik Educator and owns a studio teaching weekly music and movement classes for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers to about 100 families each semester.
Mary Beth previously taught at BCS from 2010-2013, when she and her husband welcomed twins, Noah & Emma Kate. Mary Beth returned to teach music at Bible Center in 2017 with her twins, who are now attending Bible Center Preschool. She and her husband, Cole (and chihuahua Maggie Moo), reside in St. Albans.
