Mrs. Stephanie Schafer



Stephanie Schafer joined the BCS staff in 2018 as the Head of School. She spent her entire life in sunny Southwest Florida.  After much prayer, her family knew that God was calling them to Charleston, West Virginia to be part of Bible Center School and Church.  Stephanie received her B.A. in Communication from Palm Beach Atlantic University and her M.Ed. in Administration and Supervision from Liberty University. She has been part of Christian education for 16 years as both teacher and administrator.   She has been married to her husband, Joey, for 15 years and they have a son, Dylan, and daughter, Halle.

Stephanie is looking forward to leading the staff and students at Bible Center School onto God's agenda for each of their lives.

Mrs. Susan Arrowood

3rd Grade


Susan grew up in the mountains of Pennsylvania.  After attending Christian school, she was inspired to become a teacher.  She graduated from Bob Jones University in 1991 with a degree in the Elementary Education.  Susan was a teacher or tutor at three Christian schools including Bible Center School for thirteen years.

After marrying her husband (thanks to a former student and her mother playing matchmakers), Mrs. Arrowood became a stay-at-home mom for ten years.  She was thankful to return as a tutor and now teach her favorite grade.

Mrs. Arrowood is the proud mother of two active sons, Zane and Will, who are students at BCS.  Her family loves travelling to historical places and spending time together.  They are active members at Bible Center Church.

Mr. Zak Ballard

Physical Education


Zak Ballard grew up in Hurricane, WV, and currently lives in Culloden. He graduated from Marshall University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Wellness Education and a minor in Exercise Science. He is married to his high school sweetheart, Courtney, who is a Trauma Nurse at CAMC General Hospital. They also have two dogs, Sadie & Jade. Zak is a member of Hurricane First Baptist Church in Hurricane. Zak enjoys playing church softball, fishing, traveling, and spending time with his family in his free time.

Mrs. Janet Brightbill

Piano Instructor


Janet Brightbill has been an accompanist, piano teacher, and church pianist for many years. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education, Magna Cum Laude, from the University of Charleston and a Master of Arts degree in Human Resources with a specialization in Executive Leadership from Liberty University.

In the past, Mrs. Brightbill taught Music and piano at Cross Lanes Christian School, accompanied the Charleston Civic Chorus and the West Virginia Symphony Chorus. In addition to teaching piano at Bible Center School, Mrs. Brightbill is also a music skills professor and a piano instructor at the University of Charleston. She also accompanies the UC Concert Choir, the University Singers, and the choral group, womanSong.

Janet is a native of Lebanon, Pennsylvania. She is married to Gary Brightbill, and they live in Cross Lanes, WV. She enjoys spending time with her family and spoiling her granddaughter!

Mrs. Kelly Britton

4th Grade


Kelly Britton has taught at BCS first, in the 1990-91 school year, and then from 2005 until the present. For all but two of her years at BCS she has taught the fourth grade.  Her teaching experience outside of BCS includes teaching in Georgia, Hawaii, and Japan.   She grew up a pastor’s daughter in Sissonville, West Virginia with her twin sister and two older brothers. She was inspired by some of her teachers, but mostly by her mother, to become a teacher herself.

Kelly went to Word of Life Bible Institute and Tennessee Temple University where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Education with minors in Bible and Psychology.  In 1998 she married Tim Britton, who works with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. The two reside in Charleston, and Tim and Kelly are teammates in ministry. They enjoy traveling, cooking, and laughing together.

Mrs. Jacquie Brown



In 2015, Jacquie Brown started her 30th year at Bible Center School. She felt God’s calling to be a teacher her senior year in high school while she was an aide in an elementary classroom in the afternoons. She graduated from Bob Jones University with a BS in elementary education in 1986 and began teaching at Bible Center in the fall of 1986.  She has been certified by the state of South Carolina, American Association of Christian Schools, and ACSI.

Jacquie lives in Ripley with her husband, Gary, and has two children, Kalie and Philip.  Her family enjoys traveling and the Mountaineers!

Col. John Cunnings



Colonel John Cunnings, United States Marine Corps (Retired) became a teacher in 2007 and joined Bible Center School Middle School as a Social Studies Teacher in 2011. He is currently a certified teacher, certified by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). Prior to 2007, he spent 30 years on active duty with the United States Marine Corps. He is a combat veteran of military operations in Beirut, Lebanon, Desert Shield/Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Mrs. Sharon Ford



Sharon Ford has been the Visual Fine Arts Teacher at Bible Center School since 2010. A native of West Virginia, she studied Art at West Virginia State University. While still attending classes in college, she took on a full time job as Assistant Marketing Director at Charleston Department Store for six years in the 1980s. She then became the Advertising Director at Kelley’s Men’s Shop where she was responsible for the creation of all media campaigns involving print, radio, and television.

After fourteen years in the Marketing world, Sharon took a leave of absence from her career to start a family with her husband, Doug. After a few years of being a stay-at-home mother to her daughter, Olivia, Sharon felt God was preparing her for a new ministry, and God brought her to BCS.

Mrs. Ford teaches both Elementary and Middle School Art. Her curriculum is well-rounded, using a project-based hands-on approach involving a vast array of materials and mediums. Students will also learn about famous artists and their styles, art in various cultures, and will learn to appreciate the beauty of all God’s creation.

Mrs. Andrea Garrison

5th Grade


Andrea Garrison has taught at BCS since 2011. She grew up as a pastor’s daughter in Elkview, West Virginia. After high school she went to Liberty University and received her Bachelors of Science degree with teacher certification. While at college she met her husband Matt, and they married and shortly after moved to Pennsylvania where he was a youth pastor for 10 years. They started a family while living in PA, and Andrea was a stay at home mom. They have a daughter, Sydney, and twins, Tyler and Sierra. In 2010 they felt God’s call to move to WV where Matt would serve as the youth pastor at Bible Center Church. Andrea started subbing at BCS and then the following year took the 4th grade teaching position. Just recently, they have had an addition to their family, a baby boy named Troy. The Garrisons love serving at Bible Center Church and School. BCS is a great place to grow.

Miss Rebecca Greenlee

1st Grade


Rebecca has been involved in various aspects of the ministry of Bible Center Church and School intermittently since she was in high school. She has served in the school, the preschool, and the church; but this is her first year teaching 1st grade. Before coming to BCS, she taught upper elementary at a small Christian school in Nitro for three years.

Rebecca, along with her four brothers and sisters, grew up in Alum Creek. Her earliest memories are of going to church and reading the Bible with her family. As an eight-year-old girl, she realized her need of a Savior and her mom showed her from the Bible how to trust Jesus. When Rebecca was sixteen, she surrendered her life to serve in full-time ministry. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Bible from Ambassador Baptist College and a MS in Biblical Counseling from Bob Jones University.

Rebecca loves her family; she especially enjoys spending time with her 18 nieces and nephews. She is very active in her local church, ministering to the women and children—as well as being involved in the music ministry. Rebecca is passionate about taking the gospel to the whole world. So far, she has taken missions trips to New York City, Nova Scotia, South Africa, Brazil, Peru and Colombia.

Ms. Savannah Harless



Savannah teaches Computers for all grades at BCS. She taught 5th grade for 3 years prior to working at BCS. In addition to teaching at BCS, she is a substitute teacher for Boone County Schools. Savannah attended West Virginia State University and received a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. She also has an endorsement in Social Studies Education (grades 5-9).

Savannah grew up in Danville, WV, and continues to live there with her parents and brother. She is a member of Bible Baptist Church where she also teaches a Pre-K/K Sunday School class. Savannah enjoys spending time with her family, kayaking, reading, and traveling.

Mrs. Amy Harper

Language Arts


Amy Harper teaches all Middle School Language Art classes.  Her Writing and English Education degrees were both earned at Pensacola Christian College.  After teaching at PCC, Mrs. Harper taught at North Florida Christian School and most recently at Cross Lanes Christian School.  This is her first year at BCS.  She has one son attending BCS and a high school age daughter at Cross Lanes Christian, her alma mater. Her husband pastors North Hills Baptist Church in Sissonville where the family has ministered since 2003.

Mrs. Candace Jacob

1st Grade


Candace was born and raised in St. Albans. At the age of six she was lead to the Lord by her dad. She grew up in church and was very active in ministries at church. Mrs. Jacob is a graduate of Cross Lanes Christian School. She attended Appalachian Bible College where she received her B. A. In Bible and Elementary Education. She met her husband at ABC, and they were married in 2004. She has been at BCS since January of 2004 and has loved being a part of this family. Mrs. Jacob's husband is a pastor of a local church, and they have two sweet girls. Candace thanks the Lord each day for allowing her to be a part of this wonderful ministry.

Dr. Ilse-Renee Long

Piano Instructor


Ilse began studing violin at the age of 3, and started playing the piano soon after. She always knew she would have a career in music, and currently teaches private piano, voice, and violin lessons. She is also the founding and artistic director of the WV Treble Makers, a non-profit community children's chorus based in Putnam County, WV.

Ilse has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Voice Performance from the University of Charleston (WV), and a Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts in Music Education from Boston University (MA).

Mrs. Mary Beth Malcolm



Mary Beth Malcolm grew up in a musical family. Her family sang in the church choir, her grandfather played bluegrass music, her grandmother played piano at her home church, and it was a rule in her house to take piano lessons until high school graduation. She knew from an early age that music was what God intended for her to do with her life. She majored in music at The University of Kentucky, participating in both marching and basketball bands.

After college, Mary Beth taught general music and private piano at St. Anthony School on Charleston’s West side to grades Pre-K through 8th. It was during this time that Mary Beth discovered another passion: musical theatre! She was musical director for Children’s Theatre of Charleston from 2008-2013. She has taught private piano and voice lessons and is currently the music director at Elizabeth Memorial United Methodist ChurchShe is a Licensed Kindermusik Educator and owns a studio teaching weekly music and movement classes for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers to about 100 families each semester.

Mary Beth previously taught at BCS from 2010-2013, when she and her husband welcomed twins, Noah & Emma Kate. Mary Beth returned to teach music at Bible Center in 2017 with her twins, who are now attending Bible Center Preschool. She and her husband, Cole (and chihuahua Maggie Moo), reside in St. Albans.

Mrs. Gail Nichols

2nd Grade


Gail Nichols has taught high school and middle school English, and reading, grades K-6.  She taught in public schools for 22 years—Preston County and Kanawha County in WV, and in Amelia, VA—before coming to BCS in 2014.  She graduated from Dunbar High School, and went on to receive her Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education, and her Master’s Degree in Reading from WVU.

She grew up in Dunbar, WV, with her mom, dad, and older sister.  In 1998, she met the love of her life, Rob, at Bible Center Church, and they were married there October 23, 1999.  They have a daughter, Lily, who is in Mrs. Stewart’s 5th grade class at BCS.  They have two Beagles named Savannah and Ellie. They are active members at Bible Center Church.

Ms. Kelly Ramey

5th Grade


Kelly Ramey has taught at Bible Center School since 2011. She has taught third grade since beginning at BCS. Her teaching experience outside of BCS includes teaching in Virginia and the panhandle of West Virginia. She grew up in a loving Christian home in Luray, Virginia with her two sisters and younger brother. She felt God calling her to be a teacher while in college.

Kelly graduated from Appalachian Bible College with a Bachelor’s degree in Bible/Theology and Elementary Education in 2005. She attends Bible Center Church and enjoys serving the Lord in the youth and AVL ministries.

Mrs. Janice Rohr

3rd Grade


Jan has been teaching at Bible Center since 1985. Her first 18 years were spent teaching fourth grade.  She has also taught Kindergarten and is presently teaching third grade. She also taught four years in Calhoun and Roane County schools.  Jan was born and raised in Beaver County, Pennsylvania.  She has two sisters who are also teachers.

Jan received her Bachelors of Science degree in Elementary Education from Clarion University of Pennsylvania.  She also earned her Master’s degree from Bob Jones University.  In 1994 she married Jay Rohr.  Jay is a RN at Charleston General Hospital.  They live in Charleston with their three children, Christian, Mitchell, and Claire.  Claire is in the 7th grade at BCS.  Mitchell is in 9th grade and Christian is in 11th grade at Cross Lanes Christian School.  All three enjoy playing soccer.  The Rohrs are active members at Bible Center Church.

Mrs. Suzie Russell



Mrs. Russell teaches 7th and 8th grade Spanish. This is her first year at BCS. She grew up in Nitro, WV, with her mom, dad, and older brother and sister. She graduated from Poca High School in 1979. In 1980, she married her high school sweetheart, Jack. They have two children, Joshua and Emily, and three grandchildren, Robbie, Isaiah and Lilly. The Russells currently attend Bible Center Church.

Suzie and Jack have served as missionaries with Ethnos360, formerly New Tribes Mission, since 1990. They lived in Bolivia, South America for many years where they ministered to the Simba people. They continue their ministry itinerantly.

Ms. Beth Vencill

2nd Grade


Beth Vencill has taught second grade at Bible Center School since 2001. She holds a Mathematics (B.A.) secondary degree and an elementary certificate from Cedarville University. She loves to travel. She has been to 29 states and 10 countries. She is involved in serving with the youth group and music ministry at Bible Center Church.

Mr. Ted Williams

Middle School Bible / Dean of Students


Ted graduated from the University of Florida with a B.S. in Biology and has fifteen years of teaching experience at the middle and high school level. He is also halfway through attaining his Masters degree in Theology from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. His favorite subjects to teach have always been science and Bible. Ted is also an ordained minister and has served as a secondary school chaplain, youth pastor, missions pastor, and pastor to college students in Florida. His great passion is teaching Biblical worldview and mentoring students. He and his wife, Ashley, have 2 children, Jackson and Macie. They are are all native Floridians who are new to West Virginia. They felt God calling them to join the Bible Center team and to make the long journey north. Ted loves the natural beauty of the mountains and enjoys exploring this “wild and wonderful” state.
